It’s been a bit of a struggle being me of late, which is why I haven’t been here much the past several months, but I am hoping to get back into blogging soon so we can keep in touch.
What has your heart thumping excitedly today? I am thankful for what the Lord has done for any who will believe and accept. It’s totally amazing!
And … my family is all meeting at my Dad’s for dinner today, except two members are in Florida for Christmas this year and will Facetime with us, but my mom-in-law is joining us. Yay! It will be a delightful day, 15 of us eating and sharing together. Greetings and hugs! Turkey and loads of veggies! Gifts! Desserts! Hugs! Laughter! More hugs! I love it.
I will see you in the new year, if not before. We have things to talk about. 🙂
Sending you much love.
So, what has your heart thumping excitedly today?
Thanks for reading, and … Blessings on your day!

Book: Sarah Author: Jean Edwards Stacey Illustrator: Necie Publisher: DRC Publishing Date: October 15, 2016 Genre: Children's picture book; music Pages: 40 Price: $12.95 My rating: a story about generations of family
Sarah by Jean Edwards Stacey is a “traditional song made famous by Buddy Wasisname and the Other Fellers, featuring Ray Johnson.” Ray inspired this book to be written as it was a song his father used to sing.
The story goes that a young couple married and had a son a few years later. That son grew up, married, and he and his wife had a little girl. They named their daughter Sarah, after her grandmother.
Sarah liked to ask her grandmother about how her grandparents met. The story goes on, humorously, about her grandfather trying to date her grandmother, about her great-grandmother trying to chase him off, and how funny it all was years later.
The illustrations are bright and sunny. In the back of the book is the sheet music with the words of the song.
You can find Sarah by Jean Edwards Stacey on my BUY THE BOOK page. I also post my reviews on Amazon.com, Amazon.ca, Goodreads, and on Chapters.Indigo if available there.
Your comments here for the author and illustrator are very much appreciated.

Book: Fire Pie Trout Author: Melanie Mosher Illustrator: Renné Benoit Publisher: Fifth House Publishers Date: May 20, 2014 Genre: picture book; gr 1-2; age 6-7 Pages: 32 Price: $19.95 My rating: an believable true-to-life story
Fire Pie Trout by Melanie Mosher is a wonderful maritime story, another book I purchased at the children’s book fair in 2016.
It’s early morning before the fog is all burned off and little Grace and her grandfather are going fishing. Grace packed their favourite lunch for them – pizza, which her grampie calls fire pie.
This is a realistic story that shows Grace trying to keep up with her grandfather’s long strides. The grass is slippery and wet in the fog, and Grace ends up slipping and falling, so she just rolls down the hill and waits for her grampie.
Gramps shows Grace how to fish, then sits on the bank and lowers his own line into the water. Grace doesn’t want to bait her hook with a worm, so she releases the worm into the grass when her grampie isn’t looking. She begins to worry to her grandfather that maybe she is too young to fish. She’s thinking about it’s being dark, that she’s not allowed to watch scary movies or stay home all alone, so … maybe she is too young to fish, too. Then she secretly releases another worm instead of baiting her hook with it.
In the meantime her grampie has caught two big trout while encouraging her to keep trying. The fog is gone, the sun has warmed them up, and then – after setting free a third worm – Grace has an idea! It involves pizza and Grace realizes she is NOT too young to fish after all.
This is a nicely told true-to-life story with an amusing ending that young readers will enjoy. Some will see themselves in Grace who is a bit nervous, but then discovers how clever she can be.
Fire Pie Trout by Melanie Mosher is a lovely story of a special outing for a grandchild with a loved grandparent. It has beautiful illustrations by Renné Benoit who very effectively captured the look of fog over the water, and the joys of fishing in it.

Book: The Rescuing Day Author: Christine Goodnough Illustrator: Wendy Siemens Publisher: PrairieView Press Date: 2015 Genre: children's; Christian; grades 1-3 Pages: 48; paperback Price: $7.75 My rating: an easy pleasant read for children
The Rescuing Day is a chapter book by Canadian author Christine Goodnough, sketched illustrations by Canadian illustrator Wendy Siemens.
First of all, look at the pretty red cover! Between the red covers are short chapters just right for a young reader.
It’s summertime. The story starts with Mom suggesting to her two young daughters that they get their room cleaned up quickly, their Saturday rule, so that they can be in the strawberry patch early – before it gets too hot in the sun. Megan has trouble being neat like her older sister so in her hurry she shoves everything out of sight. When she gets back she can’t find her favourite doll. This is a major crisis for a little girl, and the author depicts her feelings well.
In each chapter is an adventure for some members of the family. They have a mischievous little puppy, a younger brother who gets into his own trouble, and somebody is in need of rescuing in one way or another. There is an incident where the children are in need and they think to pray about it. It’s nicely done by Christine Goodnough, in a natural, non-preachy way.

It’s getting so close to Christmas! I don’t know about you, but I’m still not ready. We have one more week to finish everything.
Today my husband and I are attending the wedding of a young lady who is our youngest daughter’s best friend. They met in elementary school so have been best friends for most of their lives, making this even more special. Our daughter is one of her bridesmaids. Fortunately yesterday was the snowstorm and frigid temperatures, today is much better.
Before I end this post I want to share with you something you may have not seen yet. It’s a gift experiment. If you can get all the way through it without a tear in your eye by the end, you did better than I did.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Any comments about the video? Did you shed a tear?
How are you doing with getting ready for Christmas or whatever it is you will enjoy this month?
Oh, and remember my final draw of 2016 is Tuesday night! Did you get your name in yet?
