About me/Contact page

My husband and I live in the beautiful Annapolis Valley of Nova Scotia, Canada, where we brought up our four wonderful daughters. Our family is slowly increasing, and we are now happy to have sons (in-law) and also be grandparents.

I have loved books since before I could read, and upon seldom having little ones to read to I resumed my desire to write stories for children. In 1981-82 I took an evening course in Children’s Literature at Acadia University where I was fortunate to be taught by Professor Hilary Thompson. She became a wonderful mentor and friend, introducing me to the world of authors. I soon had the privilege of meeting the renowned Budge Wilson and began corresponding with her. In February ’09, through the internet I met Drew Lamm, and in November ’09 I met Laura Best at one of her book signings. (Laura’s blog is here on WordPress.) I think it was in 2011 I met the bestselling novelist, Sue Harrison, through blogging, and she’s become a dear friend, as has children’s author Vivian Kirkfield. I am blessed to know these – and other – very talented women – too many to mention – who are such an inspiration to me! I appreciate them all, including the many I’ve met through writing challenges I mention in my blog posts.

Since Spring 2011 I am a full-time part-time caregiver of a family member, so my time is divided and challenged. While currently not writing because of burn out, (I have even taken a pause on posts here on WordPress), I am reading a lot and you can find here on my blog the list of books I read. My education now is in oil painting which I have wanted to learn since I was a teen (very long ago), and which I started as a total beginner in July 2018 – and I LOVE IT.

A footnote: Polilla is Spanish for bookworm. As a child I was sometimes called a bookworm because I would so often be found immersed in some wonderful adventure in a book.  🙂

  1. I love the word POLILLA! Sometimes I just thank God for words. I love how the Book of John in the New Testament begins. Isn’t it great to know that God hardwired our love of words into our brains!

    • Sue, welcome to my blog! Yes, I agree about the love of words and that God put that into so many of us. The Book of John beginning with an introduction of Jesus, the Word of God, is an amazing book, isn’t it? How blessed we are! 🙂

Thanks for commenting. And I really like the word Polilla, too. 🙂

  2. Hi Lynn,
I have fond memories of Nova Scotia!
When I was a teenager I participated in a bicycle trip through Nova Scotia and P.E.I. A priest named Father Maroon invited us to stay at his house in Ingonish and threw a party that night.
We also attended the Gaelic Mod.
    Best wishes,
    Debbie

    • Hi Debbie,
You didn’t say from where you travelled on that trip, but I’m sure you saw some great scenery along your way. We live in such a beautiful part of the world here. I’m glad you have wonderful memories of your visit.
Thanks so much for visiting my blog, too. 🙂

  3. Welcome! I wasn’t able to find your e-mail address, but I changed up, Elana’s recipe to be more like a dish I had just on Tuesday of this week. It turned out fabulous, and if you’d shoot me an e-mail, I would be happy to share that with you as well.

Merry Christmas and celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ!

I love your blog title – I’d always wondered what “bookworm” was in Spanish and now I know!

  10. I love your blog. But more than that I love how you do the ‘right’ thing and look after your loved ones as a priority. It doesn’t mean that we don’t keep dreaming or even trying to follow our own stars. It just means that sometimes we have to wait a little while longer than we thought. Keep writing!
