NaNoWriMo’s nearly over! Can I complete the challenge?

Another day has ended, a day of little writing for me. I simply was stuck … no words sprawled themselves over my paper (remember, I write longhand) until late in the evening. Not a good sign.

Here is it November 25 already and I have not made it to the halfway point yet in my NaNo Novel writing for this year. My word count stands at 43%. This does not look good for me.

Let’s see now … comparing my totals at this stage of the NaNoWriMo challenge, by the end of DAY 24:

  • in 2010 I had written 32,179 words
  • in 2011 I had written 8,722 words
  • in 2012 I have written 21,651 words

Looking at it this way, I could make it! If I take the next six days and write like crazy, that is. Six days to go to midnight of November 30.

(And I am grateful!)

My goal is to find the end of this novel by then, too, so my questions to you are:

Do you think I can write 50,000 words by the deadline?

If you think I can, do you think I will?

And, do you think I will finish writing my novel in this challenge?

  1. You wll write as much as you need too. You have already written much more than last year. Why not aim for as many words as in 2010 and if you do more, great. If you do less, that’s OK too. Just write what you can and congratulate your self on every word written because it is one more word than you had before. (Cyber hugs XO)

    1. Thanks, Darlene. I had intended on finishing this novel this year, but as I go along I’m not sure if it will require the full 50K needed to “win” the challenge. If it doesn’t, and I have found the end of my story, then I’ll be happy. 🙂 All those words means a huge amount of editing and cutting and piecing – after I type it all into a word document. I may have found my pasttime for 2013! 🙂

  2. Lynn, I think you need to go easy on yourself. You have a whole lot more going on in your life than the writing of a few thousand words. I know exactly what it’s like. I also know that when I look back I wonder why I let it get to me the way it did. This year I managed to complete the word count, hell this year I actually did it for the first time! I signed up for 3 years running and only on the third managed to do some writing, and you know how much I agonized about that! It nearly didn’t happen – again! So here’s what I have to say to you. Write when and if you can, and if you can’t for any of a million reasons, then bear in mind that all this ‘stuff’ going on in your life right now is offering you a deep well of inspiration for your future writing. I’ll be thinking of you! xxx

    1. Thanks, Edith. Yes, I know how you agonized over trying it this year, but look how you did .. over 50K a week ahead of the finish. yay!for you!

      I think I may have come across as whining; sure didn’t mean to do that. Getting stuck now is not a good thing, so I wanted a push .. and I got it; thanks. 🙂 I’m going to see how much I can write on my week home (starting later today) and/or if I can get to the end of my story. Either one will be a win, in my mind, the greater one being finishing this novel!

      I am so grateful for the wonderful writers God has put into my life. 🙂

  3. I think if you pay more attention to the novel than to the NaNowhatever challenge, you’ll not only “Make it”, you’ll be happier with the result.

    I’m still stuck on the fact that you write in longhand. I know other people who to, but I can’t get my mind around it. If I had to write in longhand, I’d never get anything done! 😉

    Hope your Thanksgiving was great. We finally have some decent fall weather( cool and dry) and I got outside all day yesterday. It was refreshing in many ways!

    1. Perhaps you’re right, Linda. (Good to see you, by the way.) I am writing this much because of NaNowhatever 😉 so I keep track of my word count, but my main goal is to find the end of this story.
      Writing longhand is still easier for me. I am a fast writer, not necessarily always neat but usually legible, and I can ‘see’ it better on paper. The big deal will be when I start to type it all up into a document to do something more with it.

      Our Thanksgiving was nice, thanks. Ours was in October (Canada) and twelve of us met here at Dad’s for dinner that Sunday, our traditional family dinner. We have those dinners each year at Easter, Christmas, Thanksgiving, and occasional other times.

      Getting outside after days of writing or reading is wonderful. This morning I woke to find our first real snow of the season. It has begun.
