If you could do anything on your bucket list, it would be …

I posted this joke once before on this date, but at the risk of repeating myself … What is the only day of the year that is a command?

March Fourth!

It’s a play on words .. fourth/forth .. that is worth thinking about.

This being a forward day, is there anything on your bucket list that you would do, or begin, today if you could? You know .. that list of things you want to do sometime in your lifetime?

I still have not done so much that I have never had the courage to do but wanted to accomplish.  But — I am thinking perhaps I should tackle some of those in the next two years. And why not? Well, there are certainly drawbacks, hindrances, that will stand tall against my ability to do them, but there are a few I can work out, I think, some that are easier and less daunting.

Such as? you ask. Well, such as tandem sky-diving, going on vacation this summer and taking in Banff National Park, completing and submitting several manuscripts, getting back into photography in a more serious way. Those all sound like good things to start with, don’t you think?

I won’t even list the things that are less likely to happen and more of a ‘worry’ to me, although I started to write them down. (Okay, I’ll mention one .. learning to horseback ride, but my husband is deathly allergic to horse dander.) It’s probably better that I keep some other things to myself for now. Writing them down is almost a commitment.  Yikes!

Allowing fear and lack of confidence to take over one’s life can leave one with regret, disappointment, depression – which is probably anger turned inward because of regret and disappointment, and add to the fear and lack of confidence. It is such a waste of life to fall into those things. If you battle them let me encourage you to step out and away from them, one decision at a time. I am doing it little by little; you can, too. Life is so very short in light of eternity, why let it just slip away unchallenged in the things you have longed to do?

Now I ask you .. If you could do anything in your bucket list, what would it be? What in your lifetime do you really want to accomplish that will take extended effort and maybe mean overcoming some fear to get there? I am very interested in hearing about it; it would be encouraging to me.

Thanks for reading, and … Creative Musings! 🙂

  1. Hmmmm… The big goal right now is to begin building up some cash in the bank so that I can retire by 75. That’s it!

The smaller goal is to write three short stories this year, even if they’re really, really short. Since I just posted one last week that I wasn’t expecting to show up, I guess I’ll readjust my goal to four short stories. I still have three titles in my files!

    1. I understand about saving up money, that has been a major factor in not being able to achieve some of the things I would like to do, such as travel more.

How excellent about your short stories! Keep ‘er up! 🙂 You may accomplish more than your goal.

  2. Well… one of my things on my list is to have a book published (and Lord willing, this September will see one fufiled). But I also have a dream of having MORE books published. 🙂

I went whitewater rafting last year. That has been on my list since I was 12.

So now – what do I want to do?

Take some really good pics of my girls and have them framed. Get them through the rest of school. Hike all or part of the Applachian Trail with my hubby. Sell lots of books and use the money wisely. Get an MFA (maybe). Lose 80 lbs. Gain a firm grasp on the grace that already has a hold on me. 🙂

That’s just the tip of the iceburg. 🙂

  3. It’s got to be getting published and being able to handle the whole process. Surely that is the entire lists worth 🙂
I love your list, especially photography. I look forward to seeing some photos. Take care.

  4. I have actually started writing a bucket list, but if I had to pick one to begin doing today, it would definitely be to learn how to find and apply for legitimate Scholarships so that I could first be able to breathe again where my current finances are concerned, and secondly continue to prepare myself for a more financially stable future in which I may accomplish all other items on my bucket list! =)

    1. Hi Cindy, welcome to my blog. 🙂

Your first item on your bucket list could well be a turning point for you. A day of research would be a great place to start and is totally doable! I wish you much success with that. 🙂

Thank you for stopping in and sharing your dream.

      1. Thank you very much! This was a great question to put out there. I know it got me thinking, planning, and very soon, doing something rather than sighing and wishing. Action is the key, yes? You are welcome and I will be back!

        1. I’m glad it got you thinking, Cindy, that was my intention. I have to really work on this myself. Yes, action is the key.

  5. I had NO idea what a bucket list was (I asked my mom). Hmmm here’s few I’d do skydiving, scuba diving, go on a cruise, bungee jumping, learn how to fly a plane, invent a personal hovercraft and really good holograms, go to Legoland, go to Disney World, travel the world….etc etc etc 🙂

  6. I have been able to check a few things off my list lately (Have a book published, hot air ballooning, teach in Spain etc.) But there are still things to do and of course I tick off one thing and add two more. I always wanted to do a Europen river cruise and we have booked a trip down the Danube in September, so all being well, I can check that off. Another would be a visit to Australia and New Zealand. That would means saving up big time, perhaps publishing more books and selling lots of them. Now you have me dreaming again.

    1. When I read what other people have done I think I must have been living under a rock most of my life! But when one spends many years bringing up four children, and then moves from that into parental caregiving .. there isn’t much time or money for travelling and doing exotic things.
Australia is on my bucket list but it may never see the light of day. But I certainly hope you make it there and publish many more books to help you along. 🙂
Thanks for sharing your list, and keep dreaming!
